Today I was able to get an awesome local guy to make hoses for me. Todd at Emerick&Hill can help you out.

Below are pics of the new Aeroquip 3000psi hoses routed through the Pinz. It's huge overkill, but I won't ever have to replace the transmission cooler lines.

Thumbs up

Hecklebone,

I see in this pic the stock oil cooler near your freshly-prepared short block. Please be aware that this piece is known to fail, and when it does it introduces oil into the cooling system! This recently happened to me and I'm still in process of cleaning said oil out. It would be terrible for it to happen to you after all this work you've done; FYI.

Having said that, awesome Pinz! I've seen a few of the 710 and 712 air-cooled models in the past but never the TD! Good show on the rebuild!

Thanks for sharing! It seems like a rather flmsy aluminum bit.
Do you have any suggestions on a better oil cooler?

Also, here is a video of the first test drive...shaky video is 'smoothed': youtube link

You should have no problem with those cooling lines, and you got the re-usable fittings, that's exactly what I would do.
You can replace the the oil cooler with another unit, instead of oil/ water it can be an oil/air. Several companies make them. Some use one from a turbo redblock Volvo, I don't think the cooler/thermostat will flow enough though and could be a restriction. I will post some links of a cooler adapter.

Mine must have been special, it was fine with water, but pissed all my oil on the ground.

I used the turbogas Volvo thermostat air-oil cooler, and it uses tubing just as big as a Chevy or Ford. you'd want to get the block nipple with it.
I'd just grab an oil cooler off a fullsize domestic, Ford ones are pretty nice.

How many Qts does a Pinz oil pan hold anyway?

The early ones of those oil-coolers were actually less fragile and didn't break. I guess they used cheaper materials later on.

The last of the D24TIC engines in the Volvos used an oil-cooler, that had a small radiator.

The attachment looks slightly different then

Here is the oil cooler radiator (the one with the two hoses). Never mind the intercooler in that picture.

Now, that setup wouldn't fit in my LT, as the attachment at the oilfilter is too big and would interfere with the engine brackets. It could fit in the Pinzgauer though, depending on how your engine is mounted.

That's how it was fitted in my '97 Volvo 940.

/M

It is on the road. In a parade at that.
Other than a small electrical fire around my new switches, relays and fan controller, it is coming along nicely.

Also, a very cool feature of the Pinzgauer 718 is the redundant brake calipers on the front and either drives the calipers on the four rear wheels.
So, I have 6 wheels, 3 differentials, 8 drive shafts, 6 wheel disk brakes with 8 calipers on them.

Nicely done!
I can see the next Jeepers to come along? WTF left those tracks?
My truck could probably make it through much of that, but not without a full day of mess and fuss, The Pinz doesn't even have to try.

Must be good to have 3 extra wheels.
