Default Can the d24 run without electricity?

Hi, I’m doing research for a book.

After an emp bomb fries all the electric components in an old Volvo 740 diesel, will the d24 engine be capable of still running? The 12V battery will survive this, but all electrical components, such as the dynamo and "motherboards", will be fried.

The d24 is hard to come by so I don’t have an opportunity to test this myself.

If the engine has a mechanical pump, and the throttle has a wire, is it possible? If not, what would it take to make the engine run through an emp blast?

All hell appreciated

Cool! Can you please, if it’s not too much trouble, explain to me how this engine is capable of that?

Engine has no electronic controls. It only needs a 12VDC trickle to open the fuel cutoff solenoid to allow the fuel to flow. One could open up the solenoid to remove the plunger, reinstall, and the fuel would flow without the 12VDC.

Start engine by pushing or rolling downhill (assuming manual transmission). Would be more difficult in cold temperatures. Stop engine by dumping the clutch in gear.

So once started, it could stay running as long as the fuel lasts. No battery, alternator, or any other electrical supply needed.

I see, so if i open the solenoid and remove the plunger before driving through the emp blast, the engine won’t drown? The solenoid is just a cutoff?
Thank you so much for the answer

Has she been complaining about the barrels of diesel fuel you have stockpiled in the garage? LOL.
