Injector heat shields
Does anyone have the part number for the injector seals suitable for a 91 d24tdic and possibly the name of a supplier in the uk?
Bought a pop tester and have an ultrasonic bath so going to check the injectors while doing the belts and glow plugs, getting a bit of smoke on start up and acceleration so trying to limit that, so as il have her off the road I thought I might as well clean them. Also anyone know of a suitable dti gauge to buy to check the pump timing? Thanks |

I know you are in Scotland but this link mentions at least one of the common part numbers used for this product.
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/aud...ring-068130219 "Details SKU: ELR-086843 FCP Euro ID: 581064 OE Numbers 068130219, 068198999D MFG Numbers 086843" This one is a UK link but I `m sure you`ll find several companies selling this.. vw diesels were a very common thing in Europe... vw jettas, golf, passats, even older audis, LTs, etc are still around... Cars used this exact part up until 1997 or even later. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161791431316 I always buy much more than six because it is often the case that a certain injector needs to come out for whatever reason. It is suggested to not reinstall them for a 2nd time (the heat shields). Also, it`s a cheap part even when you have 6 injectors under your hood (The FCP source still seems reliably available ever since I got my 30pieces a few years ago... price went up 69% but $1.69 is still cheap ) For the pump timing you can go around not having the factory volvo tool, you can use the vw diesel timing kit with a little creativity and by carefully removing the d24t vacuum pump to have better access with the shorter tool. Any dial gauge that measures till 1mm will work fine with the vw diesel IP timing tool set. Some owners successfully used gauges that only go up until 0.5mm but that can be very confusing when your desired setting is somewhere between 0.83-0.95 For the injector cleaning/check-up service, it is highly suggested to create a surgically clean environment otherwise particles may end up disturbing the internals of the injection pump, potentially causing more `trouble` than what you had earlier. Happy to see your project here if you post pictures in the future. Last edited by RedArrow; 10-05-2021 at 01:58 PM. |

If i can get away with the be dti that may be best as useful for my t4 as well. Il get pics up as I go thanks |

D24 injectors similar to those used in numerous IDI diesels '70s - '90s Mercedes, GM, Nissan, etc.
Variable 26 Pc. Diesel Fuel Injector Pressure Adjustment Shim Kit This is a UK based company, you could inquire if they have shim kits: Darwen Diesels Limited

Almost sources what I need, could anyone confirm the nozzles on a 91 d24tic are 273 or 293 just in case I need to buy any, im not after performance just trying to keep the smoke to a minimum as it’s a little embarrassing just now

Injector nozzle wear is not the only factor in excess smoke. Also (more?) common are incorrect IP timing, and IP misadjustments (specifically the smoke screw and LDA settings).
During your injector rebuilding process you are mainly looking to equalize POP pressures, good spray pattern, and no dripping when held just under POP for 10 seconds. Greenbook for D24T shows nozzle DNO-SD 293 for all markets except USA/Canada. D24TIC might be different?

Yeah I’ve ordered the gauge to check the pump timing as well, don’t get a lot of time at home so trying to organise as much as I can to get it done, if I can rule out timing and injectors this time round il be happy |
