Injector shims
Hi Everyone.
I've finally got around to ordering the parts for rebuilding my injectors, I've got a set of spare second hand injectors to minimise downtime, a supplier of Monark 273 nozzles, new heat shields, a pop tester and an injector socket. Now all I'm left to get is shims/adjustment washers. The supplier of the nozzles has offered to also supply the shims but he needs dimensions. Would anyone be able to give me the measurements of the Bosch injector shims? Hope someone can help Many thanks Tristan

If you mean the diameter, I removed a shim from a Bosch injector that was in a USA specifications 240, the diameter is 11.5mm with a 5mm diameter opening in the center of the shim. The thickness of each shim is unique in order to adjust the opening pressure. The existing shims are a point of reference for choosing new ones.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it was just the two diameters thanks. Yeah I knew about the thickness relating to the pressure. I was hoping to order a bunch of each shim if they aren't too expensive. I may need to take apart the spare injectors and see what shims are in there first then. I'm aiming for 165bar of opening pressure and I think stock is 155? I don't suppose there are any rules of thumb when it comes to thickness and pressure? Also I read somewhere that you can stack shims, Is that correct?

I found a formula for increasing opening pressure by increasing shim thickness through exhaustive internet searching once, I forgot where the information was as well as the formula. Stacking is allowed and probably the most economical route to 165 bar.

Lapping the wear surfaces of the injector is also recommended. You may be able to find a tutorial or video out there somewhere for the process.
