Default Engine installed and running

Here's a video of the engine installed and running. I'm very happy with the power and "feel" of the engine. I did an RPM calculation and I think it's turning 3400 rpm's at 70mph.

I've got a tachometer from a 1985 TD Jetta that I'm going to install which should work with the W terminal on the Audi alternator. I'll test it prior to installation.

It is expected Volvo installed a 5 cylinder diesel on the 240 model and named it d20.
Thank you for your disclosure and photo. I saw a 5-cylinder idi in your photos live.
P.s. In the photo my beautifully working d24 (dw).

The 2.0TD are very rare in the U.S., it took a lot of research to find one from Canada. You have a good idea to put that in a 240, it is a smooth running engine, very similar to the d24 or d24t.

Excellent job on having the d24 running well in the other photo!

@Nevadan: I saw an old Quantum Syncro on the road the other day that reminded me of your 2.0TD swap project you were working on a couple years ago.

How has it been working for you since you completed it? Any updates or photos?

It ran well for about 400 miles until an oil line popped off the oil cooler I put in and I ran it dry; burned out the turbo and there's a "ticking" in the head that I can't figure out and have too many other projects to get back to it. It starts and runs but I have to rebuild the turbo. The gearing is a bit low, it runs 70mph at 3,400rpms. I will get it running again. Another thing I never totally figured out was the cooling system, I think the radiator sits about 2 inches too high and I had a problem keeping the coolant level correct. I could bleed the air out the top of the radiator and make it work but something just wasn't right.

I loved the torque of that engine, very similar to the 2.4 and nothing like the 1.6.

Darn that's a bummer to hear. Hope you do return to it and get it running again. Maybe an excuse for a turbo upgrade?

3400 at 70 is a little high but the engine probably didn't mind. Would be good to see it reach the road again, keep us posted.
