The only other oddity I ran into was that the lower timing gear seems to be attached to the vibration damper/crank pulley- as far as I can tell, they're one piece- came out as one piece and I can't see where they separate. Are they all this way? The green book shows the timing gear remaining on the crankshaft, but I'm using a non-diesel green book.

They are certainly glued together by the crap.
they are two separate pieces bolted by 4 little allen bolts and fully removable from the crank.
Clean them well before to reassembly.
