Gasser alternator modified to D24 - How-to-guide
I had a bunch of gasser alternators laying around, so i modified one, just for shits and giggles :p
I thought I would make a short "how to" tutorial, with a couple of pictures. The alternator to be modified http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psbpcdlm1h.jpg No W-out... Yet... http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psr05liagf.jpg Take it apart.. http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...ps68vamgzx.jpg Locate the three wires who sits next to each other... http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pstfmcgj9k.jpg You have to solder a wire to one of the three points, it doesnt matter which one... I chose the one on the picture :) http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3bkvvye8.jpg Pull the wire out the back of the alternator, make sure it wont be pinched or squeezed.. http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...ps78w3pyra.jpg Ready for testing - and it works ;) http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4vpdlrwt.jpg Have fun :) |
Great tutorial!
Did you use the pulley from the diesel alternator or were they the same diameter? What is the amperage of the "new" alternator? |
Thanks! :)
The pulley on the alternators a are tiny bit different in diameter. I did not think about swapping the pulleys that day, but i will do that next time the thing has to be taken apart :p The original D24T 55A alternator http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0udhbjfq.jpg Amperage on new alternator: 80Amp http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psudzoskg6.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pspsebefre.jpg |
Did you relocate the alt to PS pump bracket?
|
No, same location.

Don't know what year this started, sometime after '86 which was the last year we got them here. |
alternator EUROPE VS USA
I don't like the alternator being low in the us model.
I think it is smarter to have it as high as possible. Someone could make a strong replica of the euro version for owners here in the usa. |
