Power enduring of Gearboxes
Okay, this is NOT proved fact as first.
As second, you guys ever think what gearbox lasts what? We have here on finland quite alot knowledge about them, again not 100% fact, but i will list what does our gearboxes last. m45/46 and 47: 450nm really max, recommendable max 420nm, so stay in 400nm with these, otherwise youll get pinionporridge for breakfast. m90: 600nm has been succesfully used, but again, 550nm max is recommendable. AW7x: Approved 450nm, but with AW/x-L you can use a bit more power on upper revolutions per minute's since of turbine locker. Zf22: somewhere around 400nm. Hope this helps if someone is figuring out what gearbox to put in, since these doomday machines develops plenty of torque when tuned. Remember, these are only values we have found here on Finland about gearboxes power enduring. Those may be or not be correct values, but to close they are and they give some line to choosing. PS. IF this is on wrong forum redirect it please. |

hmmm...looks acurated, I think that the M45/M46/m47 holds less power due to abuse.

I kind of feel like the ZF22 transmission can't even handle the stock torque... mine shudders pretty bad in first gear if i floor it or have a full car.. and its got low miles as well (117k).
I need to do a manual swap but that'll have to wait until I get some money! |

The ZF22 may still work with more power, but with mine turned up a little with stock injectors the 1st to 2nd gear shift slips pretty good, its not a good firm shift like part throttle. Its got 162k miles on it and the fluid is nice and clean. I'm swapping in a M46 or possibly a 47 if I find one.

The T5 is a popular swap for RWD Volvo gassers. Would there be much more work needed to make it fit the diesels?

The issue would be finding a bellhousing to fit the diesel that would mount up to a volvo.

I would be very interested to know what transmissions can bolt to a D24T bell housing. I'm toying with the idea of putting a D24T into an 80s era Jeep Cherokee. If I can get the D24T to mate to the AX15 I'm in business. For anyone interested a guy got a Ford T18 to a D24T with apparently no modifications: http://www.geocities.com/nerockcrawl...rbodiesel.html Sorry for sort of thread-jacking this, but I figured a truck-based transmission factoid might be of interest to someone.

Cool link! Not to sound like a dumb ass, but what the hell is a T18 trans? Does it share parts with any other trans we have heard of? To bad I don't have my own scrap yard to mess around in... It would be interesting to see what other transmissions the D24T bellhousing would mount up to. Amazing that the trans had the correct length imput shaft with the right splines and everything... There are MANY sizes and spline counts of clutches out there.

http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/t18_t19.htm For that matter, the entire Novak web site will get the gears in your head spinning. There are near endless combinations of engines and transmissions on that site!
