Filling new fuel filter with ATF?
I'm planning on replacing my fuel filter and some of the old timers in my neck of the woods claim that filling the new filter with ATF is a quick and easy way to clean the injectors. Is there any truth to this?
Thanks,

Maybe so, maybe no, but is certainly a quick and easy way to prime your filter with known clean fuel.
I have only ever attributed my injector problems to wear and debris, neither of which will be affected much by ATF. My ATF costs the same as the injection additives anyway. Last edited by 745 TurboGreasel; 08-19-2013 at 05:05 PM. |

Purge
A shame that some shops still find it easier reusing old fuel in NEW filter ... PLEASE, NEVER!
I did the ATF `trick` to my other diesels with no bad results but I`d use *this* instead. http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...FUii4AodkkUAdA Last edited by RedArrow; 08-19-2013 at 10:03 PM. |

I like to just install the filter dry, and then hook a mityvac to the return line and pump until it's primed. I agree with 745, that injector problems are usually due to wear or large dirt particles that won't make it past a good filter system- I don't think there's anything there to be cleaned out with injector cleaner.
