what differences between D24 NA and TDIC

I've got a 240 D24 NA (non turbo) and a D24TDIC from a 940
I'm thinking about swapping the TDIC in the 240 (Any tips and information are welcomed)
The NA have valve shims. It seems the TDIC not ? Hydraulics tapers ? and a better cooling ? Different head casting
Is this true ?
Is there other differences ? As I prefer to do valve settings, belts replacement (timing and pump, when the engine is out)

Hi,
I'm digging this question out, because I was asking the same question.
Getting a D24 from a '92 240 (planned as spare in case for my 740 D24T or 940 D24TIC), it has hydraulic lifters (started from 1990 and on?), the previous need valve adjustion time by time. The roof block has no additional water cooling lanes for additional oil cooling, they are not drilled and can't be upgraded at all. Necessary to make them "turbo-capable", otherwise it's risking overheating. Additional, there are some differences with the pistons (turbo/non-turbo; later versions etc).
Cilynder-head: Depending of the roof engine, if the timing belt is tensioned by a pulley or water pump there are - as I know - some differences with the holes / camshaft. But I'm not sure.
The turbo versions use natrium-filled outgoing-valves.

...Any additions/corrections/things I missed out?

Best regards,
Bernd

Good info, thanks for adding it. :)

I found out: The additional lanes on turbo engines are drilled for piston cooling. Without they can overload if you enforce too much power.
BTW: tensioning system of the timing belt does not depend of the vehicle's age.
I had a '95 945 D24TIC, where the belt had to be tentioned by the water pump. It had the original engine. The same with my '88 764 D24TIC. Another 945 from 93 and 95 had a tentioning pulley. So check always out what parts you need before you replace it.

Best regds,
Bernd
